I’d like to first say that our thoughts are with those affected by the virus around the world.

Usually it is the busiest time for us during holiday season. However, we have been having very quiet times this year. But Miguel and I are safe and healthy.

The lockdown began on April 1 and lasted till mid June in Playa del Carmen. People disappeared from the busy 5th avenue and the centro area was literally a ghost town.

The town reopened in mid June and since then local businesses have been following Covid-19 prevention protocols very strictly. Restaurants, cafes, souvenir shops, convenient stores, super markets and any public places require wearing masks, offer hand sanitizer, body temperature check and shoe sanitizer mat at the entrances.

Now in December, we are still following this rules very strictly and I guess this warm weather and high humidity here also might help keep the virus from spreading.  We have to adapt to a new normal but we are having a pretty normal life.

Mexico is open to tourists and no quarantine required. The cenotes and Cozumel are open to dive and the other sightseeing sites such as Mayan ruins are open to tourists too.  We are waiting till your situations allow you to travel again.

Now that finally 2020 is ending, we look forward to a fresh start, a New Year!!

Stay safe,

Scuba Freedom
