September 16th is Mexican Independence day!   Not Cinco de Mayo!
Restaurants and Souvenir shops have Mexican color decorations everywhere in town. The cars are running in town with small size of Mexican Flags.

Working hard to decorate City Hall Park

A little bit hard to see during the day but it would be beautiful illumination at night!

Every September 15 at 11pm, the President of Mexico stands on the balcony of the National Palace in Mexico City and rings the bell then recites a shout of patriotism - " Grito Mexicano"  Here in Playa del Carmen the Mayor stands on the stage or the balcony of City Hall and recites "Grito Mexicano" at 11pm. The Grito ends with the threefold shout of " Viva Mexico!!" and a lot of Fireworks.

We went to the City Hall park last year but by the time we got there Fireworks were going off.  We missed the "Grito Mexicano"!!
They were exceptionally punctual.

So I'll get there before 11pm this year!
